Welcome to Cook's Corner, Florida!

In October, 2001, Don and Mary Cook finished construction on this beautiful 3000 sq.ft house in North Central Florida. Named Cook's Corner, this home is a labour of love and was built by their own hands, the hands of friends and in collaboration with of some the area's leading green building experts.

Don and Mary Cook spent only $116/yr on energy in 2002, primarily on propane, which Mary uses to satisfy her passion for cooking. Following is a short story of how they achieved this beautiful, near Zero-Carbon home, and the process involved in generating their emission reduction credits (ERC's).

The home came in above expectations by 14% and ended up with a Carbon Footprint of only

0.77tCO2/yr !!

The factors that made it possible:

Solar collectors (for hot water)

Solar collectors (for electricity)

Hot water tank & Takagi
 on-demand gas heater

Part of the house is dug in and cooled down by Florida's 72°F year-round earth temperature

Battery (electric storage)

Hydronic air heating

Trace inverters and power conditioning equipment
